Variation No. 10 re-zoned the two stadia to Major Facilities in the Proposed District Plan. This was to recognise the need to provide a more holistic and integrated approach to their continued development. It provides certainty that the amenity values of adjacent residential areas will be protected and responds to the strategic objectives being set by Council's Access Hamilton initiative and the emerging City Design Strategy.
The variation was heard on 19 October 2006 by an independent commissioner. On 6 December 2006 Council resolved to officially adopt the Commissioner's recommendations which was to confirm the re-zoning subject to a number of amendments to the variation. This decision was notified on 16 December 2006. One appeal was received. The appeal was resolved through an Environment Court consent order on 25 July 2008.
