Geoff Taylor is in his first term on Council, having been successful with his first candidacy in the 2016 election. He is currently Deputy Chairperson of the Growth and Infrastructure Committee.
A writer and journalist by profession, Geoff worked in daily newspapers for 20 years, in Levin, Napier and Hamilton. He covered the Council for the Waikato Times for several years, prior to being their Chief Reporter and then Deputy Editor. Currently he is editor of the Waikato Business News and its sister publication Bay of Plenty Business News.
His first book 'Goodnight Malaysian 370: The True Story Behind the Loss of Flight 370', written with former Councillor Ewan Wilson, was published in 2014. He is currently authoring his second non-fiction book and also operates a small communication and media consultancy.
Geoff was raised and educated in Hamilton, attending Hillcrest High School and Waikato University. He had periods in London and Melbourne in his 20s, and lived in Levin and Napier before returning to Hamilton. He is married with four children aged from 15 to 26 and, when time allows, enjoys playing golf.
He is particularly interested in the city's growth and housing infrastructure challenges, the revitalisation of Hamilton's central city, and is a strong supporter of the River Plan.
"We are on the verge of opening up our river at long last. I can't wait because I think it is going to be a key to transforming the feel of the CBD and the way we feel about the city as a whole. I'm really excited about Hamilton's future."
