The Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Awards are now open – and for the first time, entrants will be able to submit their entry electronically this year.
The online entry form is available at Waikato Museum's website: www.waikatomuseum.co.nz/contemporaryartaward. The impetus behind moving to online entry is to increase accessibility and convenience for entrants.
The online form allows entrants to load, resize and edit images as part of uploading their entry. Those using movie or other media in their entries have the option of providing screen capture of single images.
Waikato Museum director Kate Vusoniwailala says there were several benefits associated with moving to online entry.
"The Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Award is a premier contemporary art event and consistently attracts a high calibre of entries each year. This year, we wanted to increase the ease with which entrants could access information and the efficiency with which they could submit their entry to the awards. Moving to online entry signifies the increasing recognition and sophistication of the awards as they continue to develop as one of the leading occasions for local and regional artists."
These awards are sponsored by Trust Waikato and were initiated by the Waikato Society of Arts. The prize pool for this year's Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Awards is $15,000. Last year's winner was Ann Shelton with her work entitled A library to scale, part II, Marsland Hill, FB Butler collection, Puke Ariki, New Plymouth. This entry showed a series of photographs, displayed on video animation, which focused on one of the scrapbooks produced by Frederick B. Butler.
Entries for the Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Awards are now open and close 17 June 2007.
