Hamilton’s central city alcohol ban has been extended to include areas around FMG Stadium Waikato for the inaugural HSBC NZ Sevens event next month.
The temporary alcohol ban around the Stadium for the Sevens was requested by Hamilton Police, supported by the event organisers, and was approved by Hamilton City Council in December. The temporary ban will be in effect for Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 February.
The city has an ongoing 24-7 alcohol ban in effect in the central city, which prohibits the consumption of alcohol on city streets and other public places. It does not prevent residents or businesses from transporting unopened alcohol to their homes or premises.
People breaching the alcohol ban can be issued with an infringement notice, by Police, resulting in a $250 fine.
