Council's swimming facilities have successfully registered with Swimming New Zealand as a Quality Swim School (QSS) under the new industry standards launched on 7 February 2007.
Waterworld and Gallagher Aquatic Centre join two other swimming establishments in the Waikato Region to achieve the nationally recognised QSS standards set out by Swimming New Zealand.
The QSS standards signify the first nationally recognised set of criteria and standards for swim school operators in New Zealand. To attain official QSS status, a swim school must register with Swimming New Zealand as a quality swim school and complete an assessment that covers: staff training; programming; communication; management; facility/environment; safety; and external links. To qualify as a QSS, a swim school must score in excess of 95 points over the seven sections and attain the minimum requirement for each individual section.
Subsequent QSS audits will be completed by Swimming New Zealand annually.
Leisure Facilities manager Jason Rogers says Council is committed to providing high quality swimming facilities to a national standard.
"For Gallagher and Waterworld to achieve the Quality Swim School standard so soon after these were released by Swimming New Zealand is extremely pleasing as it shows that we are already providing swimming facilities to a national standard of excellence.
"One of the key areas of focus for Council's swimming facilities is educating children and adults on the importance of learning to swim and equipping our community with skills they need to swim safe. We see this as being part of playing a responsible role within our community which is something we place at the heart of our facilities. The QSS will serve as a valuable ongoing benchmark to ensure that we continue to provide the highest levels of swimming facilities."
