Candidate nominations for Hamilton City Council’s East Ward By-Election close at noon tomorrow, Friday 22 December 2017.

To date, nine nominations have been received, with more expected before Friday’s deadline. The candidate nomination list is available on the Council’s website.

Candidates’ nominations must be in the hands of the Electoral Officer or an Electoral Official at the Council office no later than 12pm tomorrow Friday 22 December 2017.

To be eligible for nomination in East Ward, a candidate must be enrolled as a Parliamentary elector and be a New Zealand citizen.

Nomination papers are available from:

  • Customer Services, Municipal Building, Garden Place, during business hours
  • by calling 0800 922 822, during business hours
  • via hamilton.govt.nz/byelection anytime.

The By-Election was prompted by the passing of Councillor Philip Yeung on 30 September. Electoral law specifies if a council vacancy is notified between late September and late November the resulting By-election is to happen no earlier than mid-February.

Voting papers will be posted on Friday 26 January 2018, for return by 12pm on Saturday 17 February 2018, with preliminary results available that afternoon.
