Sections of Palmerston St and Norton Rd in Hamilton will be under traffic control next week while work is done on large trees currently overhanging the roads.
The work on Norton Rd will be between Tristram St/London St and the Norton Rd roundabout – the section of the street running between Founders Theatre/Boyes Park and Seddon Park – and will be done on Monday 12, Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 March.
During the first two days of the Norton Rd project, the westbound lane (Seddon Park side) will be closed meaning road users will need to detour via Tristram St and Rostrevor St. On the third day of the job, the focus will shift to the eastbound lane (Founders Theatre side) and the road will be under traffic control during parts of the day.
The Palmerston St work will be done from Thursday 15 and Friday 16 March, and will focus on the section between Fow St and Manning St. Several trees will be extensively pruned and two large specimens will be removed completely, but replaced with smaller more upright species during the winter planting season.
At various times throughout the Palmerston St project, traffic on the street will be under “stop/go” sign control. There may be minor delays for motorists while specific pruning tasks are completed.
Road users who commute via these streets are urged to consider alternative routes while the work is underway, or plan for minor delays on their journeys through those parts of the city.
Work on both sites will start shortly after 9am and will be concluded at 3pm on all five days.
The work is being done to complement the operation of the city’s buses through those neighbourhoods.
