Furry Valentine's Day

Love will be in the air around Hamilton Lake in February for a special event for dogs and their owners.

On Sunday 11 February at Innes Common, Furry Valentine's Day will be a chance to spend some quality time with your dog, have your photo taken together and take part in a mass walk around the lake.

For those who don’t have a dog or would like another one, there will be speed dating with the dogs we currently have for adoption who are looking for their forever home.

Valentine's photos with your dog start from 9am and are $5 with bookings essential. The event will be concluded with a mass walk around the Hamilton Lake starting at 10.30am.

There will be prizes for the best dressed love-themed dog and best trick as well as spot prizes.

All the proceeds from the day go to Hamilton Adopt a Dog and New Lives Animal rescue. The event is organised by the Council and is sponsored by Nutro, IAMS and Pedigree.

Paw over our dog information online

While you wait with anticipation for 22 April 2017, take a look at our animal education and control information online. Our team has put together a whole heap of useful information about caring for your dog, safety around dogs and what your responsibilities are as a dog owner, adopting a dog and where to get help in reuniting lost and found dogs.

You can even register and pay for your dog's registration online using our Dogs Online system. (If you're wanting to pay online for other types of Council payments as well - you might prefer to register for Online Services - where you can do all your payments in the one place plus access the Dogs Online system).

Paws outdoors

Until you can bring you dog to another 'Paws in the Pool' event - make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise outdoors in and around our city. Check out pooches in parks overview map and also our PDF map of approved dog exercise and 'no-go' (exclusion or prohibited) areas throughout Hamilton (listed and linked to under 'Current Bylaws' on our Bylaws page).
