Rates services

What do you get for your rates?

Many of your everyday activities depend on services provided by the Council.

We're responsible for the water that flows from your taps, collecting your rubbish and making sure the shelves of Hamilton's libraries are stocked with books.

We build and look after Hamilton's playgrounds, maintain the city's roads, plant trees along the city's streets and operate sporting complexes across the city.

If you want property information and advice you come to us. We own and operate the Hamilton Zoo, Hamilton Gardens and a host of community sporting facilities. We provide a range of artistic and cultural endeavours in the city and develop and maintain facilities such as the FMG Waikato Stadium.

We also support the protection of our heritage buildings, remove graffiti, provide community advisory services and plan for civil defence emergencies.

All of this is just the tip of the iceberg. Almost all of these services are paid for by your rates. The following list gives you an idea of exactly what services your rates pay for.
