Upgrading a section of Ruakura Road is underway which will create a safer environment for road users, pedestrians, and people on bikes.
Considered a priority project, the upgrade (between Wairere Drive and Silverdale Road) will provide a critical link to the Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway, and support Council's commitment of shaping a city that's easy to live in and explore and connect.
Once complete, the upgrade will include traffic lights at the intersections of Ruakura Lane/Ruakura Road and Ruakura Road/Knighton Road as well as shared paths and dedicated cycleways for people to enjoy.

What's happening now?
Soon, our team will get underway with the next stage of safety improvements to Ruakura Road.
Ruakura Road, between Ruakura Lane and Silverdale Road, will be closed from 24 October until late December (red lines on the image below).
Ruakura Road, between Wairere Drive and Ruakura Lane (including the entrance to Nottingham Drive) will reopen on 24 October with minor works still to be completed (green line on the image below).
All dates are subject to weather and diversions will be in place for Orbiter buses - visit busit.co.nz for more information.
We know these continued closures will mean significant disruption, detours, and potential delays for you, and we apologise for any inconvenience this will cause. Residents will always have access to their properties and we're working hard to get this work done as quickly as possible.
What do the yellow dotted line and orange line represent on the image above?
These two roading projects are part of the Ruakura Key Transport Connections project. More information on this project can be found here.
