Upgrading a section of Ruakura Road is underway which will create a safer environment for road users, pedestrians, and people on bikes.
Considered a priority project, the upgrade (between Wairere Drive and Silverdale Road) will provide a critical link to the Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway, and support Council's commitment of shaping a city that's easy to live in and explore and connect.
Once complete, the upgrade will include traffic lights at the intersections of Ruakura Lane/Ruakura Road and Ruakura Road/Knighton Road as well as shared paths and dedicated cycleways for people to enjoy.

What's happening now?
Ruakura Road is set to reopen to road users next week (Wednesday 22 December). As part of the upgrade, Ruakura Road has been under road closures since the beginning of August. Although the whole project is not yet complete the main on-road construction is mostly finished. From next year the team will be back at it again completing the final stages of work including road surfacing, footpath construction, and traffic signal installation.
