We are working towards making the Ruakura area an innovative and sustainable community. To do this, we are working in partnership with Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) and the New Zealand Government, to invest in New Zealand's largest integrated development, anchored by a 30ha inland port operation delivering major economic, social, environmental, and cultural benefits to the Waikato and New Zealand. Introduced to Hamilton City in 2011, Ruakura is a priority development area within the Future Proof Growth Strategy and identified through the Hamilton Urban Growth Strategy (Council's spatial vision for the city).

To support the development in the area, Council will continue to work with partners to deliver the next stages of the Ruakura growth area. This includes the delivery of environmental activity and critical transport and waters infrastructure.

The Ruakura programme will allow development of a new community in the east for up to 8000 people in the next 10 years. It will also have huge economic benefit delivering 6000 to 12,000 jobs.
