What does this mean for Hamilton Zoo?

The safety and wellbeing of our wildlife and everyone who visits Hamilton Zoo is our priority. We are closely monitoring the advice from the Government and Ministry of Health, and will be updating our guests via our website and social media platforms as new information becomes available.

Alert Level 3

Are we open?
No. Hamilton Zoo is closed to the public. Public venues must close at Alert Level 3.

There's so much open space, why do you need to close the Zoo?
Closing Hamilton Zoo protects our community, our staff and our animals in the best way possible.

I have an annual pass to the Zoo; what happens with that?
Annual passes will be extended to ensure that customers get the full 12 months.

I have an encounter voucher; what happens with that?
Hamilton Zoo will honour all encounter vouchers - expiry dates will be removed so customers can use these when it suits them once encounters are reintroduced.

What about the animals?
Care for our animals is considered an essential service. Our experienced and dedicated staff will continue to care for and feed our more than 600 animals. Check out the Zoo's Facebook page to see what our animal friends are up to.

What about the Zoo education programme?
Our education staff can provide online content, student and teacher resources and virtual sessions on request. Contact them at zoo.education@hcc.govt.nz.

Will this delay the Hamilton Zoo Waiwhakareke shared entry precinct project?
This major construction project will continue, with all Council contractors required to take appropriate precautions.
