Mahoe Park sports park development

As part of its 2018-2028 10-Year Plan decisions, the Council has committed funding to the improvement of Mahoe Park.

Our development of Mahoe Park responds to increasing city-wide demand for sports parks: as the city's population grows, so does the need for sports fields for a range of codes.

We've identified Mahoe Park as suitable for baseball and softball, and potentially two "over-flow" pitches for football (soccer).

This is a long-term project split up into three stages, over several years.

Stage one - Sports fields development (complete)

Stage one of the Mahoe Park sports park development is now complete with Hamilton's first international grade baseball diamond and upgraded park surface now open to the public.

Construction, which began in September 2019, included installing new drainage and irrigation, levelling the park surface, planting new grass and installing an international grade baseball facilities.

Stage two - Carpark, toilets/changing rooms and park furniture (2020-2021)

The next stage will include installing toilet and changing room facilities and a new carpark with up to 28 new car parks in the north west corner of the park (see map for details).

Hamilton City Council have worked closely with the community to determine the location of these new facilities based on the feedback from four concept designs and further investigations. This location was chosen because it's facing onto the industrial boundary away from residential properties, providing a central service to all fields.

Construction of these new facilities is expected to begin this financial year – June 2020 to July 2021.

Stage three - Playgrounds and path network (2021-2022)

The Council are also investigating options for a new playground, park furniture and paths around the park that will be installed as part of the third and final stage of the park development.

We are working with the community to make sure their needs and ideas are considered to determine the location and how these facilities may look and feel.

The Council's development of Mahoe Park is a direct response to increasing city-wide demand for sports parks: as the city's population grows, so does the need for sports fields for a range of codes.

Thanks for your interest in this project. We will be updating this page at different phases of our project to keep you informed of progress.

Throughout this project, Mahoe Park will still be available to the community to use, but from time to time, some parts may be off-limits while work is underway.
