We know dogs are important to many families and individuals in our community.
Healthy and happy dogs are exercised regularly, and the Council has a role to play in providing off-leash dog exercise areas in our parks – we have 14 of them already! You can find more information about them here.
Fenced dog areas mean dogs can be exercised in a safe and sensible way.
As part of its 2018-2028 10-Year Plan decisions, the Mayor and Councillors committed funding to the development of an additional dog area in the city.
We want to construct this new fenced dog exercise area where we already have some suitable space and assets, such as toilets, car parking, and easily accessible.
Three parks have been identified as suitable locations for a new fenced dog area – Tauhara Park, Resthills Park, and Innes Common (behind the Hamilton Yacht Club, on the southeastern side of Lake Rotoroa).
We're aiming to have this new fenced dog area installed by June – but first, we want to know where the city's dog owners and people in the wider dog support and care services industry think it should be.
