A long-serving Rotarian, zoo volunteer, local theatre stalwart and pioneer behind the national toy library movement will be amongst this year’s Hamilton Civic Award recipients.
Regarded as one of the city’s highest honours, the 2010 Hamilton Civic Awards will be presented to 14 recipients at a ceremony in the Hamilton City Council Reception Lounge tomorrow [Friday, 10 December] at 10am.
Hamilton mayor Julie Hardaker said the Civic Awards pay tribute to the efforts of individuals who devote a great deal of time and energy to the city.
“The Hamilton Civic Awards are an opportunity for the city to acknowledge the amazing contributions that certain individuals make to our communities. Often these individuals work away quietly in the background and their efforts aren’t always recognised, so these awards are a way for us to shine the spotlight on some of the amazing people we have here in Hamilton and show our appreciation for all their hard work.”
The 2010 Civic Award recipients are:
Sayeeda Bano
David Campbell
David Croucher
Christine East
Michael Easther
Gillian Gorrick
Margaret Holroyd
Kathy Moody
Paul Gerard Mitchell
Tureiti Moxon
Tom Purcell
Nancy Rounthwaite
Jan Silvester
Shirley Winikerei
Anyone who has made an exceptional contribution to Hamilton can be nominated for a Civic Award. Each year nominations are approved by Council, with a maximum of 20 bestowed in any year.
