Recognyz 08, the Hamilton Youth Awards are being relaunched with a bang this year! Hamilton City Council are staying mum for now on the big kiwi band headlining the stage on awards night, but with just over a week until nominations close on 12 September, the race is on to get nominations in and be into win a fantastic range of prizes – from VIP passes to iPods, fashion and music to $2000 worth of dream dollars for the Supreme winner to further their passion.
Awesome musicians, talented artists, clever ideas people, great leaders, strong role models and members of fantastic groups - everyday there are young people throughout the city doing special things that mark them out in the crowd.
There are a diverse range of award categories youth can enter, from community involvement and volunteering to leadership of other young people, innovative and creative ideas, overcoming adversity and achievement in arts, music or culture.
This month will be their chance to shine as Hamilton Youth Council, ZM and Hamilton City Council present Recognyz 2008, the Hamilton Youth Awards.
Hamilton City Council communication executive Christine Watson says, "there's a whole lot of great stuff happening in Hamilton. It's happening because there's some awesome young people behind it. We want to hear the stories that are out there so we can shout it out and dish out some fantastic and well-deserved prizes.
"We're taking that to the stage too. We're staying mum on the chart topping kiwi band taking the stage on awards night, but we can say that there be some award winning youth acts right up there alongside them. Whether they are finalists or not, all Hamilton youth are welcome to come, and we've made tickets a really reasonable price so they can."
