The Civic Awards ceremony is held annually near Council's birthday to honour some of the individuals who have contributed to making Hamilton a better place to live.

There are six award categories being: Art and Culture; Education; Environment; Human Rights; People and Well-being; and Sport. This year, nine finalists received awards in one or more of the categories.

Hamilton mayor Bob Simcock says that Hamilton is fortunate to have so many residents and organisations that enhance our community fabric and serve our city with enduring commitment.

"There are many in Hamilton who quietly yet dedicatedly contribute to enriching the local community and making quality of life and community wellbeing strong and confident within our city.

"Although their contribution to Hamilton is significant, these individuals, organisations or groups often receive scarce recognition for their vital input. The Civic Awards offer a great opportunity to pay such recognition to those who are a key part of our city's life blood."
