Victorious Melbourne Cup winner and proud Hamiltonian Graeme Rogerson was honoured yesterday [Tuesday, 27 November 2007] in a civic event organised by Hamilton mayor Bob Simcock.
The impetus of the event was to celebrate and recognise both Mr Rogerson's international thoroughbred accomplishments and his strong contribution to Hamilton city. Invited guests gathered to honour Mr Rogerson at the Hamilton Gardens Rotary Lounge from 5.30pm-7.30pm. The Melbourne Cup was present at the evening.
Mr Simcock said that Mr Rogerson's dedication to building one of the most distinctive racehorse training operations in the world has not only brought him well-deserved accolades but also launched Hamilton as a world-class destination for thoroughbred excellence.
"Graeme Rogerson is an outstanding ambassador for both the racing industry and for Hamilton city. Through a lifetime of dedication, Graeme has risen to the top of the international racing scene with stables in Dubai, Sydney, Melboure and Hamilton, New Zealand. His Hamilton complex is considered one of the best of its type in the country and indeed, the Southern Hemisphere.
"His recent Melbourne Cup win with Efficient marked a treble honour for Graeme. He also had top racing success with Savabeel in the Cox Plate and Polar Success in the Golden Slipper.
"Graeme's lifelong commitment to achieve excellence in the thoroughbred racing industry has highlighted over the years that Hamilton has proven an ideal launching pad for New Zealand horses to take on the best all over the world. Further evidence of the high regard in which Graeme is held is provided by the fact that many leading New Zealand thoroughbred owners choose to place their horses in his care.
"It's a great pleasure to celebrate Graeme's success and significant contribution to Hamilton with him."
