Hamilton City Council’s Public Art Sub-Committee has granted approval to the Waikato Combined Equestrian Group to progress a proposed sculpture in the city.
The group’s proposal was tabled at today’s sub-committee meeting, following recommendations from the Council’s Public Art Panel.
The proposed site for the sculpture is Memorial Park, where Hamilton has existing memorials and monuments to New Zealand’s involvement in military conflicts.
The group’s proposal is for a bronze sculpture depicting a military horse representing those which served with New Zealand forces in Europe and the Middle East during the First World War.
The group will be required to report back to Council with a detailed design for the sculpture.
