Monday 12 February 2018

The number of East Ward By-Election votes received today is greater than on any single day prior to the last full Council election, taking the running total significantly ahead of the equivalent point in the 2016 postal vote.

Today’s mailbag contained 2748 votes, or 4.95% of the papers issues, with the total votes received to date now at 8837, or 15.92% of the papers issued.

By comparison, the East Ward’s highest one-day vote total in 2016 was 2300, a figure recorded twice in the final week. On day nine of the 2016 voting period, some 7500 papers, or 14.5% of those then issued, were in.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 13 February, is the last day for safely posting in votes, as it cannot be guaranteed that any posted after that will reach the Electoral Officer in Auckland before voting closes at noon this Saturday, 17 February.

However right up to the noon Saturday deadline votes can be dropped in the ballot boxes at Council’s Municipal Building and the Hillcrest and Chartwell libraries.
