Victoria on the River is an expansive amphitheatre-style park on Victoria Street and a welcoming and attractive public open space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Offering fantastic views of the Waikato River and connections to the city’s popular river path network, Victoria on the River formally reopened on 25 January 2018.
We purchased the 476 sqm site – previously occupied by the Waikato Times – in 2009 and committed the funding to build the amphitheatre in late 2015.
More than 9000 plants now give it a green and organic feel, blending with the adjacent natural landscapes of the Waikato River.
The amphitheatre shape of the park means it is an ideal venue for small acoustic performances.

You can book any venue or location listed here for a big or small event.
If you’re planning an event with any of items listed below, you’ll need to apply for an event permit:
● inflatables e.g. bouncy castle
● amusement devices
● more than 100 people
● food stalls
● bands/DJs
● marquee
● stage
● road closure.
You do not need an event permit if you are planning a casual event that will not include any of the above. However, you will need to apply to book a park or reserve for your casual event.
